The Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Course (Level III/Advanced) is a practical course of instruction for assigned members of a crisis negotiation team. The Advanced Course is the third in a series of three progressive courses and contains material dependent on a comprehensive knowledge of negotiation skills and terminology. The Advanced Course is trained in accordance with guidelines established by the National Council of Negotiation Associations. This course is designed to prepare law enforcement personnel to mitigate threats involving barricaded subjects, suicidal subjects, hostage takers, and others presenting behaviors associated with victim precipitated homicide or suicide by cop. The course culminates with a challenging, student-facilitated practical exercise that addresses training objectives for all three levels of crisis/hostage negotiation courses.
