This course provides law enforcement officers with a legal perspective on stops, detentions, arrests and searches. Officers will be instructed on the case law that defines what constitutes a stop and arrest. Instruction will cover the legal definition of arrest and the parameters set out by the courts for searches. The course also covers issues related to case law that governs DWI and drug checkpoints, both on the state and national level. Additionally, officers will be instructed on issues related to interrogations and the admissibility of confessions.
